Jairo de Jesús Romero Serpa resides in Magdalena, Santa Marta, with his wife and three children. Jairo has dealt with major challenges in his life, specifically the loss of a child during the pandemic. Despite the hardships of life, he remains positive and grateful for the changes faith has brought. Jairo recalls a period of his life when he was consumed by gambling and alcohol, yet his entire life changed five years ago when he felt the call of the Lord. The Lord led him away from an addiction-ridden life and on a path of spiritual and personal transformation.
“I always dreamed of starting anew,” Jairo shares.
For years, Jairo desired formal higher education but set his desires aside to prioritize his children’s needs above his own. Then, an unexpected invitation to Manna University arrived. Having been away from formal education for thirty-five years, he felt the weight of the challenge but was ready to take it on.
“I never thought I could deliver the word or analyze what the Lord was expressing. I have now become a writer and a poet. I want to thank the teachers who supported me a lot at the very beginning. I was tempted several times to quit classes at Manna. I said, ‘Lord, can I do this?’ And I felt a whisper saying, ‘If this opportunity is in your life, who do you think sent it your way?’”
Through courses like Destiny and Calling, Jairo discovered a passion for writing and sharing the Word. He was inspired by teachings from David Guzik and R.C. Sproul leading him to establish a men’s group titled “Seed of Faith.” Jairo also shared how his understanding of the Bible has deepened and how his communication skills have sharpened, yet he remains humble recognizing his ongoing journey. He is eager to continue learning, desiring courses in public speaking and prayer.
“It’s a dream come true! The Lord granted me this miracle,” he adds, reflecting on the unexpected gift of education and spiritual growth.
Jairo’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of Jesus Christ. From overcoming struggles to becoming a beacon of hope, his story resonates deeply. From his relationship with the Lord, and journey through higher education, Jairo gained knowledge and discovered a renewed purpose. As he continues to inspire others, Jairo stands as an example of the growth that occurs when faith meets opportunity.
