Meet the Faculty Shaping the Next Generation at Manna U

We sat down with one of our faculty members, Sean Pottorff, to ask some questions about being a professor and what it means to be part of a Christian university faculty focused on shaping the next generation.

Q: Sean, what can you tell us about yourself and what courses you teach at Manna University?

A: Sure, so I have a Master of Arts in Christian Leadership and a Master of Science in Accounting.  I have served as a leader at Manna Church for about 9 years now, focusing particularly on developing future leaders.  I have been married almost 9 years to my beautiful wife, Michelle, and we have 4 adult children. I currently teach College Mathematics and Introduction to Ministry Operations at Manna U.

Q: What made you become a professor at Manna University?

A: Great question.  I received my Master of Arts in Christian Leadership from Manna University (it was Grace College of Divinity back then), and I really enjoyed the curriculum and challenges the degree presented.  The faculty always cared for students and genuinely wanted to see me succeed in everything I did.  That stuck with me.  I have always had a heart for finance and math, and in particular, how important math is to God.  As a Christian educator, I get to combine the two.  So, I sought out Manna U to be on their faculty team.

Q: So, you are an alumnus of Manna University!  What role did a faith-based faculty play in your decision to teach at Manna U?

A: It was everything.  Having received two degrees in an institution outside of Bible college, I was excited to see what Bible college professors brought to the table.  Being on a team of faith-based faculty means we are all united in our goal for our students – to educate, equip, and empower them to change the world.

Q: How are you helping shape the next generation of leaders?

A: That is another great question.  It has to start with serving our students.  As a faith-based faculty, we are intentional in serving our students and investing in their spiritual development.  Before any coursework begins, I pray for my students by name, I pray for their families, and I pray they finish well.  I encourage honest feedback, and I make myself available for student interaction and engagement.

Q: What would you say to a potential student looking for Christian university faculty?

A: I would say do your research and make sure your faculty are not just educators but are actually engaged in the ministry.  Manna University’s faculty are practicing what they teach in the field.  Manna U faculty are pastors, chaplains, children’s ministry leaders, worship team leaders, small group leaders, mission leaders, and much more.
