Research often includes human participants. When this is the case, the researcher must respect the rights and safety of those engaged in the research activity.
Consequently, those participating in research must be assured of their welfare and protection throughout the research process. Therefore, at MU, all research involving human participants is subject to review by the Institutional Review Board (IRB). The researcher may not begin research activity, including soliciting subject participation or data collection, prior to IRB approval. Any research data collected prior to IRB approval is disallowed for use in the research project.
